Don’t tell me you didn’t see this coming. I think I did mention that once I find something of my liking then it’s hard to not come back with yet another project using that same technique. After making this faux terrazzo tile from clay I couldn’t help but try it once again. What makes this pattern so enticing is the fact that there is a myriad of possibilities when it comes to the choice of colors that you can choose from ( you can be a minimalist and keep it simple or let the colors make a run as you wish ) and there is no way you can get this pattern wrong. Believe me, when I say I just let my hand run free as it is that easy. 

It wasn’t really hard to think what colors I should choose, pink of course for the base and then I could compensate for the color with some black & white and in between ( I mean gray )

Did I sell you out already now let’s get ahead with our business of how to make this terrazzo tile inspired planter

Materials:

+ Kanist Vase from The IKEA
+ White spray paint
+ Pastel pink acrylic paint ( I created my own color mixing crimson with white )
+  Black and white acrylic paint
+ Foam Brush
+ Paintbrush
+  Sealer / mod podge

Steps:

1. First you need to get your vase primed. I gave my vase two light coats of white spray paint ( because it takes less time ), if you don’t have a spray paint you can very well use white acrylic paint.

2.Now you can either use a ready made pastel paint like martha stewarts’s or you could choose to mix 3:1 ratio of white and crimson to ascertain the color of the vase that you see ( why I make my own colors is so I have the freedom to ascertain exactly the same colors that I have in my mind ) You will need 2-3 coats of paint to cover the surface entirely ( after it dries makes sure that hold your vase against a light source and check for any space not covered well, you may want to apply some paint to make the surface nice and even as after you you place your plant the inconsistency will come to show )

3. This step can be done however your wish. But it is much easier to start working with one color at a time in my case I started with white and went ahead with gray and then black with no gap in between the applications necessary.

These layers of paint applied to the vase is very well scratchable so to give your planter a longer life you can use a sealer of your choice or apply a coat or two of mod podge in case you don’t have a sealer.

Couldn’t life get any easier. These days I seem to be on a painting marathon but I am not complaining. This sweet plant of mine named schflerra now sits in this vase ( you may remember it back from my diy eyelash and cactus mug days ) and rumor has it has never ever been this happy. My plant is thanking me for finally changing it from its plastic pot and rescue it from possible yellowing.

What else can I say? Maybe there sits a sad plant in your den that needs a special treatment after all they matter too, am I right?
