Whether it’s a playground or battlefield or political arena. Every team has one leader who not only ensures everyone is giving their best but also ensures that the team is getting all it needs. HMP has tried to draw a parallel between the old players Indian cricket team and the previous leaders of the ruling party.
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Sachin Tendulkar
Like Sachin, Vajpayee ji let his work talk. Always carried the team on his shoulder and made sure team carries him on shoulder when he leaves the ground. Though right now their critics unequally praise them, but during their playing period many times team made their efforts go down the drain.
Co-incidentally both were suffering from joint problems (Knee for Advani , Tennis elbow for Sachin) that too during same period.
Shri Lal Krishna Advani and Saurav Ganguly
Like Ganguly was for Lords 2002, Advani was for Babri structure, they both demolished it and the respective event turned out to be a turning point of their career. Team had showed full confidence in these leaders.
Bala Sahab Thackeray and Venkatesh Prasad
Like Venkatesh Prasad, who reserved his best against Pakistan , Bal Thackeray always stepped up against Jehadis. In 1992-93 riots sparked by Jehadis from Pakistan were so well managed by Bal Thackeray that he single handedly saved Mumbai. It reminds us of Venkatesh Prasad, who clean bowled Amair Sohail when he openly challenged him.
Pramod Mahajan – Arun Jaitley and VVS Laxman – Rahul Dravid
Both pairs works as fire extinguisher for their respective teams. Like Laxman-Dravid in Kolkata 2001, Mahajan-Jaitley were instrumental in floor managements & keeping co-ordination between coalition partners. These leaders showed their calmness to win the impossible looking battles.
Bangaru Laxman and Vinod Kambli
Though started their respective career brightly, it was interrupted by tragedies drawn by their own faults.
Shahnawaz Hussain and Mohd Kaif
Minister of Civil Aviation, Shahnawaz, like Mohd Kaif, was also young & energetic in his field. Co-incidentally both were either lost or missing in 2014 LS elections while fighting for BJP/INC.
George Fernandes and Javagal Srinath
Defence Minister, and one of the most hardworking ministers, like Srinath, people underestimated him when he was there, and realized his real worth only after he retired
Venkaiya Naidu- Nayan Mongia
Minister of Rural Development, always vocal in Parliament, much like Mongia, who behind the wicket was bound to be vocal as he had to appeal every now and then.
Suresh Prabhu -and Anil Kumble
Minister of Power. Suresh Prabhu was recalled to lead Railway Ministry & was sacked (due to opposition pressure), Anill Kumble also joined Indian team as coach only to be sacked for no fault of his own
Prakash Singh Badal and Harbhajan Singh
Prakash Singh Badal has been old ally of BJP & like Indian cricket team looked towards Harbhajan Singh, Vajpayee ji always relied on him as close confidant. Like Harbhajan Singh, he was also mostly successful on local pitches (State elections than Parliamentary elections)
Sushma Swaraj and Mithali Raj
Like Mithali Raj who has kept India’s flag high in women’s cricket for two decades, Sushma ji also served the party for multiple decades. Mithali was finalists in 2005/2017 World Cups, same way Sushma ji has been in both the victorious teams of Vajpayee ji / PM Modi.
Uma Bharti and Jhulan Goswami
Again long time flag bearers for respective teams, both Jhulan & Uma represented glorified teams of 2005/2017 & Vajpayee /Modi respectively.
