The Idle No More movement was the inspiration for this piece, but its reasonably minimalistic lyrics extend beyond the Aboriginal peoples who sparked the movement itself. The message is one of unity, empowerment, pride and respect for natural resources.
LYRICS:
*Verse*
I don’t know where you come from,
Except for maybe where I’d like to think I’m from.
I know that may not seem
Entirely fair to a fair sum.
Some of us humans have suffered
Slings and arrows, swallowed sorrows untold.
But the greatest Godly sin of them all
Is being told how your life will unfold.
*Chorus*
IDLE NO MORE!
IDLE NO MORE!
Stand up, for a closed window is just an open door.
IDLE NO MORE!
Stand up, for a closed window is just an open door!
*Bridge*
We all want relations to improve
So let’s do our best and make a move!
The rocks, plains, rivers, the forests and streams;
Corporate schemes will smash and trash all traditional dreams.
It’s time for us to unite and make a big sound.
Estranged peoples everywhere, please gather round!
And please be prepared to be…
*Chorus*
IDLE NO MORE!
Every closed door is just an open window.
IDLE NO MORE!
Every closed door is just an open window.
IDLE NO MORE!
Every closed door is just an open window.
IDLE NO MORE!
Every closed door is just an open window!
