We wrote this song to address the issue of child labour and exploitation, and how corporate powers and consumers both bear a responsibility to make better choices, in defence of children's rights around the world. Through this song, we want to empower people to make that positive change, by becoming more conscious consumers.
Lyrics:
Can you hear them?
Someone's crying from the ditches
Someone's drowning
In your pocket full of riches
Someone's desperate
Holding on to their last threads
So you can't hear them?
No one suffers in your head
Your greed turns the gears, the engines roar
Your money is the sweat from all their pores
Their lives are your pay, rates, and scores
But still you want it bigger, faster, more
We've been lied to,
All these nations of unconscious consumers
We've subscribed to
Giving companies the blame
For our ignorance and shame
We're the ones who fuel this fire
As long as we're their buyers
They'll force children into unjust hire
Our need turns the gears, the engines roar
Our money makes them sweat from all their pores
Their lives are our brand-name wear in stores
But still we want it cheaper, faster, more
Can you hear them?
Someone's crying from the ditches
Can you hear her now?
Bruised hands and a broken spirit
Tell me you can hear it
8 years old with a lifelong story to tell
The girl makes clothes that her little hands stitch so well
And we wear those little hands everywhere we go
The faceless girl has been everywhere you know
Each day she lives this brutal life
And we think singing this simple song will suffice
But with all our little actions, revolution is born
Vote with your dollar, question your brands,
Reach out to hold her fragile little hands
Our fight can stop the gears, they'll hear our roar
Our choice is our weapon in this silent war
Their lives can bring the change we're looking for
But only if actions speak louder than these chords
