Just 3 day ago, Pantone released Greenery as the color of the year 2017. And if you had been following my Instagram stories you would have come to know about this project as I shared a sneak peek to the green I hade created mixing yellow with blue. I was more so inspired of the color sage after reading this post at Decor8 and here we are. And guess what, I almost predicted Pantone’s color of the year, 2017 had I used more of yellow than blue in my mixture.
Now, despite having multitudes of devices on hand it’s nice to have a wall clock to know what time it is. As all one needs is a pair of eyes to roll in the right direction ( frees you from the shackles of your phone for a change ) Most Modern clocks come in eye-catching designs but they sure can be expensive. Why buy one when you can make it from scratch with materials easily found at your craft store. It sure makes for a great statement piece that reflects your personal style
I have placed mine right above my desk, it comes handy to remind me of lunch time as the workaholic me can sometimes overlook her very self. What I like the most about this copper speckled clock is that it reflects light as if it were the moon.
Chopping board/Pizza pan board 12 inches
Clock movement kit
Blue, yellow & white Acrylic paint
Thin Bristle Brush
Copper Deco Foil
1.Find the center of your chopping board and make a hole in the center with a drill bit that matches your clock movement’s head where you attach the clock hands at. I also went ahead to make a hole in the handle to hold the clock.
2.Prime the chopping board with some white paint, it will help to create a surface to best present the color intended.
3. Mix some blue with yellow until you get dark green. Add some white to the mixture to lighten the color. By now you should have sage if not adjust the three colors to get the desired shade. You can skip this step if you already have sage acrylic paint at your disposal. If “Greenery” the Pantone color of the year 2017 is what you desire. increase the amount of yellow.
4. Paint the entire surface with the help of a foam brush for a smooth finish
5.The glue being quite thick, we can only speckle by drawing with a thin bristle brush. Draw an uneven circle and droplets all throughout the board with your glue. You can use a speckled object as a guide or an image from Pinterest. It should take 1-2 hour for all of the glue on the surface to turn tacky.
6.After a while, check if the glue has become tacky before applying the copper foil over it. Once you are sure, gently place your copper foil over the glue and lift gently to reveal the copper foil on the glued surface. Doing them bit by bit will make the task easier.
7. Wipe a wet cloth over the back of the clock movement, apply some gorilla glue and stick it on the chopping board. The clock handles in black were not a good match to our newly painted and foiled chopping board. So, I sought to paint them in dark green. Install the handles and let the glue to expand and dry before use. Pop in a battery and hang your new modern clock on a wall. You can also thread in the hole with cotton rope or suede of your choice as an addition for a better finish.
Result a beautiful clock that you hang can anywhere. Mine have changed location thrice because we can’t decide which room need it the most.
