Tropical plants and cactus’ are the rage these days and the trend doesn’t look to be fading away soon especially when more and more stores seem to be offering a variety of home & decor products either in their shape or pattern.  I thought of giving a tribute to my Monstera plant that I so greatly love ( she was one of my first plants purchased and I am happy to say that she is thriving) by making this hot pink monstera leaf doormat

And anyways, my slacking fabric doormat wasn’t doing me any good so why not skip to coir for a tough job that a doormat is meant to serve. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that I also wanted to try this makeover just so I can save some bucks. I am sure if I had to go searching for a Monstera leaf doormat I wouldn’t catch one and if I did, it wouldn’t have come cheap.

In a bid to continue my pastel pink saga I naturally painted with it first but the color wasn’t attractive and what I thought it would come to look. So, I went for this hot pink and I wouldn’t regret it even for a minute.Tropical plants and cactus' are the rage these days and the trend doesn't look to be fading away soon especially when more and more stores seem to be offering a variety of home & decor products either in their shape or pattern. There aren’t really many steps but quite a few prep work to keep in mind with the Monstera leaf pattern. I scoured the net for an outline and didn’t get one that I was looking for. Naturally, I had to draw my own on a paper which I later traced over a piece of old but sturdy cardboard.

I cut out the Monstera leaf and I was left with the outline. I placed it over my mat and applied two coats of paint. I soon came to realise that the edges were far to thin for me to find the pattern. So, I had to go back and draw another outline with much space between the separations within the leaf . I would highly recommend to have a good 1 inch or more space between the separations in the leaf.  Update : You can print my Monstera outline, it is in the materials section. Click over the link which will then take you to the image, right click, save and print:)

I placed some empty spray cans over the cardboard to help it keep down whilst the paint application. Apply 2-3 coats of paint for best results. You may have to place few sheets of newspaper around as spray paint spreads around and can paint unwanted areas ( my bad I hadn’t taken care of it in my first try)

Finish of your doormat with a quality sealant. I will be getting mine this week so I have yet to use this doormat.
