There was this time that I had a million ideas popping with fur. This dyed faux fur crossbody bag was one of them. To me, faux fur equals to comfort! I don’t just like to sit on one of them while I type my words but I absolutely adore it on my bag so much that I can constantly run my stiff fingers through it in this cold winter season. And it’s a hella stylish (scroll till the end to see how I wear it). Also, did I mention how easy this project was to make?
This dyed faux fur crossbody bag is the next thing you want to try today. You don’t need a fabric dye but that something you can easily find in your craft stash that is acrylic paint. Now let’s delve deep into how you can make yourself a dyed faux fur crossbody bag.
Materials:
- Faux fur
- Pink acrylic paint
- Wooden dowel
- X-acto knife
- Glue gun/E6000 glue
Steps:
1.Lay down your choice of a bag over the backside of the faux fur. Mark where the ends of the bag meet the fur with a pencil. Now with a sharp x-acto knife slit 1/3 of an inch outside the markings.
2.Prepare your dye by pouring 2 liters of hot water and about 150ml of acrylic paint. The darker the color the more the amount of paint required for the job. Stir the paint with the water very well so you don’t have a residue left at the bottom of the bucket. Also, make sure you have gloves on and this is done on a protective surface to avoid any mess just in case.
3.Slowly push down your cut faux fur in the dye bath and stir it well so it engulfs the entire surface of the fur. Leave it there for about 5 hours occasionally stirring it. Once you are happy with the color, remove the fur from the dye bath and rinse it with cold water until it runs clear. And hang it to air-dry.
4. Finally, now that we have the dyed faux fur we will proceed to fix it to the top part of the bag in my case a satchel.
And voila! You just upped your game with the addition to faux fur over your bag. If you are single and is looking forward to celebrating it with your friends come galantines day, why not gift this to your friend and let her know you are the best pal she has ever had. Being a big time lover of pink couldn’t resist the call. But you sure can dye your fur in any color available to you that will suit your bag.
And does this look familiar to you? Sure, it does! A couple of weeks ago I had made a lampshade for my bedside table using the same technique of dying a large faux fur pink
