DIY Copper Eyelashes Pink Box

September 19, 2016

DIY Copper Eyelashes Pink Box | Enthralling Gumption This hue, clearly I am not over it. I continue to find ways to incorporate pink anywhere. Just for example my last post at Instagram was gripping with pink and A Beautiful Mess featured it! Clearly it is not a wrong decision after all, right? In fact you should have already have your pink paint and brush ready on your work table. Let’s go! The inspiration for this project came from this lovely eyelashes and cactus mug that I had made earlier! So thought why not put that to another good use. I am particularly lousy when it comes to jewelry and all that jazz, it was time to box it in style.

You bet I did not use liquid copper gilding that would have been difficult and messy, not to mention the shiny appearance would be missing from them copper eyelashes. To know more on what materials I used to make the eyelashes and for further instructions click here.DIY Copper Eyelashes Pink Box | Enthralling GumptionDIY Copper Eyelashes Pink Box | Enthralling Gumption

Moving to Turkey

September 11, 2016

Moving to turkey 1Probably, my first heart-felt post that I’ve written. Things have been changing in such speed  I couldn’t gather myself  to accept and go through it, let alone let you all know. My absence mainly in August was part in due of shifting base from UAE for Turkey. It has not been easy, I’ve lived almost my entire life there and I certainly do feel homesick as I write. Being a private person, I may not be able to share the reasons for our migration, but I can conclude that things were not going to work in the near future. Sometimes life puts you in difficult position and you have very little choice but hey that’s life, right? I’ve only recently got our wifi system set and the projects that I will be sharing were completed before I made it here.Needless to say,  a lot of exploring must be done before I could know where to get my DIY  project supply and get back to making. Meanwhile, also learning to read and write in Turkish. Not to forget, I had to give away my plants at the last moment to neighbor and friends! I must say I was quite attached to them but I’m glad that I can look back at almost any past project and cherish those sweet memories ( I sound such a loner but I promise I do have friends lol )

Talking about friends, I have a made one and what we share in common is pure awesomeness  we both love IKEA for what it is modern and simply cool and can’t wait for a joyful retail therapy session with her. I’ve some experience learning a new language, the basics and I think I will be able to have normal conversation with people over here in about 3 months. It’s tough to adjust in a new environment ( I still feel like a tourist ) This week  I’m  planning to scour the city to find a few crafts stores to get accustomed and finally get back to making again. When that happens you will know it through Instagram stories, so you better follow me there to not miss a thing.

On the most exciting and positive note of moving to new a home is undoubtedly the number of projects that will follow. I am already brainstorming a few and can’t wait to get started.

This is it for now. Do let me know how did you cope and adjust in a new city, I would love to hear from you, any advice or extraordinary moments I am all ears! It isn’t that bad , right?

P.s. That’s the view from my apartment blinded by colorful buildings ( edited for the sake of #candyminimal )

DIY Geometric Metallic Vases

September 6, 2016

Learn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutesLearn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutesSummer has neared its end and I can already see a couple of autumn related projects popping up in my feed. I instead bring you wonderful glass bottles transformed into vases for the remaining few ranunculi’s out there.  For this project, I made use of kefir bottles that I had been enjoying and let me explain this. As a crafter, I don’t see things as waste, it goes through some analyzation before it ends in garbage, if its unlucky.  The color may have been a major put off but the shape was more than perfect for a vase, so why not? I love how a can of spray paint makes a huge difference and seriously who could tell what they looked like before. If you want to hear it from me stock spray paints like you do for your pantry. Also, slight interruption there are only 4 days left for the voting to be closed, if you didn’t know yours truly has been nominated for Amara’s “Best International Interiors Blog”, vote here .Let’s get started already

Materials:

+ Glass containers
+ Spray paint
+ Gold & Silver contact paper
+ ScissorsLearn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutes

Steps:

1.Clean your bottles thoroughly with soapy water and pat them dry. Find an empty carton and  in an open area place your bottle upside down and spray your first coat going back and forth and rotating the box instead of the bottle to paint all the sides without damaging ( pardon the image that shows otherwise, a carton is a much better option ). Continue to apply thin layers of spray paint to get a smooth finish. Likewise, do the same with the other one.Learn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutes

2.While the paint is drying out, cut  four  1/2 X 10 inch sized strips and the remaining a little smaller from your gold & silver contact paper to apply over the bottles. Learn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutes

3.Lay over your bottle and slowly reveal the contact paper by peeling it on the spot while holding down the other end. Apply three thick horizontal strips, the lower one being the thinner one. Now, apply the contact paper in a criss-cross  method making sure that the triangles formed as a result are as even as possible until the end meets the beginning neatly. Use exacto knife or a sharp cutter to cut the contact paper strips on the spot.Learn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutes

And that is all to it really. Pick up flowers of your choice and style your vignette or better place it on your work table were you mostly spend your day.

Let me know if you will be attempting to recycle any bottles to make this metallic geometric vases. If you do, don’t forget to share with us by tagging me @enthrallinggumption and use the hashtag #enthrallinggumption for a chance to featured at my Instagram account. Learn how to upcylcle simple bottles into this modern geometric metallic vases in just few minutes
