If you’ve got a games room in your home that’s feeling a little sad and underwhelming, you might be looking at what you can do to level it up without spending a fortune. Yes, you could go out and buy some high-end slots machines and a roulette wheel, but what can you make for yourself if you are DIY-inclined? Let’s find out!
Can You DIY A Roulette Game Table?
A roulette table is probably the fastest way to elevate any games room and really capture that casino ambiance. After all, is there much that offers the thrill and group excitement to the same degree as this particular game? Probably not.
It’s not easy to DIY a roulette wheel, but there are options, especially if you have some carpentry skills. You will need to begin by cutting a table top from plywood, in an L shape. The legs will need to be attached to the bottom; you may wish to purchase some ready-carved pedestal legs to give this the high-level aesthetics you’re after. The legs have to be really sturdy if you’re adding a proper roulette wheel – it will be heavy!
Green baize will then need to be glued to the tabletop, forming the basis of your roulette layout. From there, you may wish to print or purchase a roulette stencil, although if you’re a dab hand with a ruler and marker, you could even create this from scratch yourself.
For the wheel itself, it’s best to purchase a second-hand one if you can; this will ensure that it spins fairly and doesn’t end up with an unintentional bias. However, if that’s not an option for you, you can use a basic spinner design (look up any cardboard spinner tutorial) and create a working wheel for yourself.
You can then finish off the table with a trim around the edge and a selection of colored poker chips – voila! A roulette wheel that you have crafted from basic materials, and hopefully at minimal cost.
Of course, not everybody wants to go to this level just to enjoy some roulette in their living room. Maybe it sounds a bit much to you, and you want to add a fun roulette game to your casino room without having to do any building at all? That’s easy to do; most high-end online casinos now offer the option to play a roulette game from the comfort of your couch with no effort except logging in! And the added benefit here is that you’ll save a lot of space for other games – since roulette tables aren’t exactly known for being petite. With that in mind, what other games can you DIY for your casino space?
Can You DIY A Baccarat Table?
If baccarat is more your game than roulette (or if you want as many casino options as possible), never fear. You’ve actually got a super easy DIY here because it’s possible to buy ready-made baccarat mats that can simply be added to any table, creating that professional feeling in seconds. You can also create a version yourself by purchasing green baize and drawing on the template – but it’s one of those things that’s probably easier to purchase ready-printed.
We would totally recommend getting a table to fit it, though; it will look so much better if the table’s size matches your mat, rather than being mismatched. That means looking out for an oval table – not the commonest item, but definitely out there. Of course, you can cut wood to size and add some legs if you’d rather take the more hands-on route.
When your table is all done, purchase some proper baccarat chips to finish the look; these are often larger than standard casino chips (although you can use standards if you prefer).

Can You DIY A Slot Machine?
Maybe you want something even more ambitious. How about DIYing your very own slot machine? This is pretty high level, so you’ll want to check out the full instructions here – but if you’ve got the skills and the enthusiasm, this is a great project to take on. You’ll need a box (decide in advance if you’re working in wood for a really high-level effect or cardboard for something that’s functional and cheap), plus a ping-pong ball, some bearings, some rubber bands, skewers, and a few other crafty bits.
Be aware that this is a pretty challenging option, but wow, it will look phenomenal when it’s done, and the fun part is that you can customize the symbols.
